Check this out. The State Department’s new proposed Biographical Questionnaire that some passport applicants will have to fill out will include all addresses since birth; lifetime employment history including employers’ and supervisors names, addresses, and telephone numbers; personal details of all siblings; mother’s address one year prior to your birth; any “religious ceremony” around the time of birth; and a variety of other information.
This information will not be mandatory for all applicants, only for “some applicants,” according to the Federal Register. But the criteria has not been disclosed.
Seriously — what the hell? This is the USA, not Syria or Myanmar.
It sounds an awful lot like the racist voter qualification exams used to deny blacks the right to vote in the South during Jim Crow. Not to say that this is necessarily a racist questionnaire, but that it could be used to deny select people passports on an arbitrary basis.
Look, I’ve said in the past that I’m awful at strategy. So maybe focusing on this aspect of the story will be effective in galvanizing opposition. But it does get my hackles up a little bit! There’s nothing wrong with financial managers per se, especially…
You may have noticed that Rabble has been sort of quiet about the legislation going on lately and that’s because it’s bullshit.
We have a senate who will not pass House measures and President who will absolutely veto any legislation that may make through the senate so it hasn’t really been a blip on the radar, so to speak, because symbolism is great an all, symbolically defunding Planned Parenthood is great and all but it doesn’t actually DO it, so I’ve honestly just been waiting for the GOP to put its money where its mouth is. And it’s pretty clear that ain’t gonna happen.
The state legislation is where shit is getting real.
But this I just can’t take anymore. It’s becoming more and more apparent that the GOP’s promises for more jobs and a better economy and JOBS was only to get them into office. Their REAL plan was to make everything worse when they got into office and hope the American people are just too fucking stupid to notice that Obama isn’t the one making it worse.
Defunding Planned Parenthood doesn’t make jobs (in fact, it will LOSE them I’m sure), tying up the House floor with a constant barrage of abortion-related bilge does not make jobs. It wastes money.
And now they don’t even want women or poor people or whoever the fuck else needs to go to Planned Parenthood to get PREVENTATIVE CARE. Preventative care PREVENTS a lot of things, including abortions.
Tell me which side is trying to reduce the number of abortions again? Oh, right, the pro—choice side. THIS is why “pro-abortionist” in exchange for pro-choicer is LAUGHABLE. THIS is why they aren’t pro-life (preventative care includes all sorts of treatments that help a person to prevent severe illnesses or catch it early, if this is removed, people will be worse off when they are eventually diagnosed). THIS is getting ridiculous.
Please don’t fall for the GOP. They don’t want you to have jobs. They don’t want to stimulate the economy. They just want to win the pissing contest.
